On Monday, February 4th, CWA Local 70003 President Saundra Cole met with Congressman O’Halleran at a breakfast roundtable with other local labor leaders. Congressman O’Halleran talked about the shutdown and what he expects will happen in the next few weeks. He brought up a bill he co-sponsored, HR1, the For the People Act, and said he is concerned about the public funding text of this bill and worries that we would be tied up in the courts if it does not get amended. He also talked about healthcare and was asked if he would support Medicare for All. He said he would not. Another topic that was brought up was the proposed merger between Sprint and T-Mobile, which CWA opposes because of the potential job losses. He said he would look at the data before he takes a position. In attendance were representatives from CWA, IBEW, Teamsters, Painters Union, Alliance for Retired Americans, AZ AFL-CIO, APWU, AFT and UFCW.
